What are planter warts?

Plantar warts are tough growths that develop on planter surfaces, the soles (or the bottom) of the feet. Because the warts are located on the bottom side of the foot planter warts are one of the most painful conditions.

Warts are often raised and spongy like, but on the soles of the feet warts seem to be flat and scaly.

Infection with the virus is usually acquired from wet, contaminated floors in lockerrooms, shower stalls, swimming pools, saunas, gyms and other communal places with wet floors. The virus are common on the wet, damp floors of these places.

By walking around on wet floors or using public showers the risk of developing planter warts increases.

Most people build immunity to the planter virus with age, plantar warts are more common in youngers than in adults. Around 15 percent of all teenagers have warts.
